She was formerly a staff reporter for the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone. She also serves on the board of the Goldhirsh Foundation, Columbia Journalism School, and ProPublica. Her first book, a memoir, Greetings from Utopia Park: Surviving a Transcendent Childhood, was published in 2016 by Harper Collins.
