Summary
Joining me to discuss the incredible life and work of perhaps my favourite author - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - and his most famous creation - Sherlock Holmes, is comedian and friend Tom Craine.
EPISODE 1
To the world, he was the architect of logic.
The man who brought us the deerstalker, the magnifying glass,
and the brilliance of 221B Baker Street.
But Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a man of startling contradictions...
A medical doctor and surgeon whose globe trotting career took him from the rugged whaling ships of the Arctic,
to the bloody battlefields of the Boer War.
His life was an odyssey of high-stakes adventure, where his interests and experiences were to converge into his defining creation - Sherlock Holmes
But as the character became the global icon of reason, he bristled against the success of his literary masterpieces,
and after killing off Holmes, Doyle himself plunged into the occult.
In an amazing life story full of unbelievable twists and turns,
He risked his reputation to prove the existence of spirits, and swore to the world that photographs of garden fairies were real.
This is the incredible true story of the creator who couldn't escape his own shadow… Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes.
