Summary

Like, at all. Now that might sound like me, an atheist, trying to bash the bible and point out the obviously flawed nature of it, but no, this is like, a respectable scholarly take on it. Today I'm joined by the two Dans of Data over Dogma! It's a cool new bible podcast that features an actual scholar. And not an atheist one, either! We talk about the good book and some things about it you really might not have ever heard!

Hello and welcome to Series Ink, where's only this is episode 381, I'm your host Thomas Smith,

0:20.7

and today's episode is very fascinating. Some of you may recall, may know that I used

0:26.9

to have a Bible-related show, so I got my start. Please don't go listen to it, it's old, it sucks.

0:34.0

It's when I first started, you know, 2010, I didn't even think anyone was listening, I wasn't

0:40.1

very funny back then, arguably not now, but I mean, you know, arguably funnier now than then, I think.

0:46.8

Anyway, point of all that is, I'm something of a Bible podcaster myself, and when I heard my friend

0:52.8

Dan Beacher, it started a new Bible show, but like, you know, a smart people one, with an actual

0:58.4

expert called Data Over Dogma, I figured I definitely need to check that out, and not only did I

1:04.0

check it out, I also wanted to have them on the show, and have a conversation about the Bible,

1:07.9

from a more scholarly perspective, because there's so much there, it's one thing to read it as a person,

1:14.4

which again, I argue you should be able to just do if it were, you know, the word of God, but I'll

1:19.7

set that aside. It's another to really have an understanding, which I definitely don't, of where it

1:25.8

comes from, you know, what it's made out of, what things went into it, what decisions, what

1:32.4

different people, different times, it's a massive document. It's not one thing that like a guy

1:39.7

wrote or a God wrote, like it's a complicated thing. So I want to have the dance of Data Over Dogma

1:46.2

on for a cool conversation about that. So without further ado, let's get to that interview.

1:51.0

But as always, if you'd like to not hear this little ad break here before the, before the actual

1:55.8

interview, go to patreon.com slash series pod and get ad free episodes, each and every episode,

2:02.0

and the bonus stuff, some early stuff, the seriously awful movies, go check it out, please

2:06.8

support the show, and thanks to everyone who has, and now let's get to the interview. And I'm

2:11.4

joined by the dance, the biblical dance, and my friend Dan Beacher, and a new Dan, you're a new

2:18.8

Dan in my life, Dr. Dan McClellan, congrats on that distinction. How are you guys doing?
