Absolutely. Our guest is Dr. Ari Shin. She's an assistant professor of English at the University of Southern Mississippi, which is my alma mater.

I don't know. Thank you so much, Lindsay and Thomas. It's my pleasure to be here.

That's great. So do you want to tell us a little bit about your background?

So my home field, I would say, is modernism and avant-garde practices.

But over the years, I've really gained a lot of interest in gender and sexuality studies, race, and art history.

So all of these things right now, especially what's going on in America at the moment, or what's always been happening in America, has really kind of focused my interest in a way that I think is not out of line with contemporary politics,

especially recent debates about what's going on with critical race theory and educational legislation.

So I was thinking back and realizing in doing an episode of what is critical race theory, I realize it's unintentionally part of a series that is responding to the different moral panics throughout the years.

What is postmodernism? I know I've done that episode when that was the buzzword that everybody was scared of on the right.

I don't know if I've done literally what is intersectionality, but I think we've talked about it a lot.

And there's probably some other moral panic words.

So I just think that's such an interesting component of this that there's always, it seems like there's an evolution to the next kind of scaremongering buzzword.

But at the same time, I think critical race theory is a super fascinating thing that I would like to learn more about.

So I suppose I don't mind a chance to talk about it.
