Hello and welcome to Weird Wild World, a weekly series that takes a look at the power of nature.

I'm the aluminati and today we're going to be talking about sinkholes and a very specific sinkhole known as the

Great Blue Hole.

And I know there's so many off-color jokes that can be made, but please try to keep it civil.

There have been some massive incredible sinkholes

captured on camera before, where it simply

looks like the earth swallows up cars, trees,

buildings, you name it.

But how does this happen?

Is it something to do with the ground

there being weaker or there being a tectonic plate separating it?

Well, I didn't have much of an idea, so I started with the USGS.

The US Geological Surveys website and a fantastic source for these episodes to find out more. So let's get into it. According to their website, sinkholes are common where the rock below the land surface is limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds, or rocks that can naturally

be dissolved by groundwater circulating through them.
