Anyway, when I was in middle school, probably 13 or 14, I was out one night at my aunt's apartment complex.

My mom, my aunt, myself, and my cousin were standing outside talking.

It was already dark outside, and there was really no one else outside.

Well, me and my cousin got into an argument, so I walked off.

It's important to know that the complex was up on a hill and the parking lot was at the bottom of the hill.

Also, it's a long row of buildings down a long street.

Across from the apartments is a grassy area followed by a chain-link fence and some townhomes.

So here I am walking down this long, quiet street in the dark.

I don't know why my mom let me do that, but I was kind of hard to control also.

I got pretty far, far enough that I couldn't see or hear my family anymore.

The apartments are on my right and the fence and the townhomes on my left.

I hadn't seen anyone until I looked to my right and saw a man in probably his late 40s, early 50s, standing at a van.

He was just standing there, watching me.

It's also important to note that at this point, I was already past him, meaning I'd have to pass him again to get back to my family.

I really don't know how much time passed because it felt like time had stopped.

My mind was racing. He had turned to face me now, still watching me with a weird look on his face.

I remembered that I had been told that there were sex offenders in that complex, and my heart sank to my asshole.
