Here's one of my favorite family stories.

Names are fine. Already cleared it. My family is from East Texas. We live about 45 minutes from

Shreveport, Louisiana. So picture it. It's the late 80s, early 90s. My grandmother, Teresa, is taking

my young aunt, she was around 10 at the time, to the yamboree, a local festival that celebrates yams.

Oh my God, I love that.

I won't get into it, but there's a yam queen in everything, very east Texas.

Anyway, she and my aunt are going to watch my grandmother's friend Bunny perform with her little band.

Bunny was seeing a man at the time and after introducing him to my grandmother and aunt,

they proceeded to hang out, ride the rides, and other typical carnival stuff for the remainder

of the night. He even took my child aunt on the Ferris wheel. She said he was nice enough,
