Hello listeners it is Thursday September 14th. I'm Scott Bland your host and you are

listening to Politico's nerd cast. I'm back after a few weeks off caring for a newborn at home very excited to be here

and very excited to jump into this week's topics. There was a lot going

on this week. Just on Wednesday we had a couple major policy proposals coming out, one a little

more concrete than the other, but the key thing

that they have in common is that Bernie Sanders, Medicare for All proposal, and the possible deal

on Dreamers and DACA that President Trump is said to have outlined at a meeting with Democratic

leaders last night.

Both are dividing the parties of the protagonist.

Sanders proposal is very controversial among Democrats,

although a lot of the potential 2020 presidential candidates have signed on to it.

Trump made immigration a signature issue of his during the campaign and is already getting

blowback from his base over a potential legislative fix to DACA.

Other things we're going to talk about this week, there have been three retirements by House Republicans in potential battleground districts over the last week.

We'll talk about who they are, where they came from, and what it means in terms of the Battle for the House in 2016 as Democrats are trying to target the 24 districts they would need to take back the majority.

And then we're going to take a quick turn into foreign policy at the end of the program. The United Nations General

Assembly is next week. It's going to be President Donald Trump's first. It's going to be Secretary

of State, Rex Tillerson's first. It's going to be United Nations Ambassador

Nicky Haley's first. And so we's going to be United Nations Ambassador Nicky Haley's first.

And so we're going to talk a little bit about what that means and some of the internal movement

machinations inside Trump's foreign policy team over the last few months.
