One of the things that motivates new song is new experiences of power or new insights into God's holiness.

It's the freshness of sight that brings forth the freshness of song.

And so I think a barometer of whether there's renewal

and awakening in the church is whether or not

there's a kind of a desire to say things

in some fresh new ways.

When the Spirit gives fresh sight of God, his holiness,

his beauty, his power, there's this instinct to respond. And often that response is a new song.

Lord, there is such a correlation here between our capacities as human beings to relate to each other and our capacity

relate to you, it seems to me.

And I just pray earnestly right now for the friends in this room, visitors and regular attenders

that we would feel the readiness on your part to be intimate with us,

to speak with us as a precious friend, as a spouse even, and that you would enable us, Father,

to find within us

the fulfillment of verse 13,

with all our heart to seek you.

I pray that longings would be begotten

in this congregation that have never been felt before
