1:21.0	I'm trying to sort of get a history lesson on Juneteenth. What does
1:25.8	Juneteenth mean to mean to people? So Juneteenth commemorates the fact that the slaves in Texas did not find out they were free
1:36.0	until two and a half long years after everyone else.
1:40.0	So the Emancipation Proclamation happened in 1863.
1:45.0	The slaves in Texas didn't find out they were free until June 19th in 1865.
1:52.0	And the fact that they were free was intentionally kept hidden from them and as a matter of fact
1:57.6	slaves were brought from other states to Texas so that their freedom could be kept hidden from them as well.
2:05.0	There, there's a statistic that's mentioned in here where 30% of the population of Texas were slaves.
