With your spirit.

A reading from the Holy Gospel is written to us by John.

Glory to you Lord. John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and he said

behold the Lamb of God. coming toward him. And he said,

behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

He is the one of whom I said.

One is coming after me who ranks ahead of me.

He existed before me.

I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.

John testified further saying I saw the spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain

upon him. I did not know him but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me. On whomever

you see the spirit come down and remain, he is the one who are baptized with the Holy

Spirit. Now I have seen and I testify that he is the son of God.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Much of the wisdom of scripture is found not by just reading what I just read, but by reading between the lines.

What are they really saying? And this might seem like an unimportant point to some of you, but I want to

point out something that's actually clear in all three readings, but we largely pass over.

Let me say it at the beginning and then we'll try to illustrate it.

I am convinced that God is saving history.
