Today we're talking with Simon Mischo.

He's an associate professor of geomelurgy at the Geological Survey of Finland

and the Circular Economy Solutions Unit.

We're going to be hearing more about that as well.

His undergraduate degree in physics and geology, so it's an applied science, and his PhD in mining engineering from University of Queensland. His work experience includes 18 years in the Australian mining industry in research and development, three years in Belgium at the University of Lege researching circular economy

and industrial recycling. So we're going to hear a little bit about that. Work experience in

Finland has been at GTK. It's been minerals intelligence in their MTR unit before joining the

KTR in mineral processing and geometalogy being developed.

So what are we going to do?

We're going to discuss the realities people, or should I say the unrealities,

of moving from fossil fuels, which we know we have to do, geologically speaking, right?

If not climate speaking for some of you, but it's geological thing. We're going to have to

move from fossil fuels to the so-called renewable or rebuildable or alternative energy systems,

which we'll call green energy systems here today. So what are those realities or unrealities?

This is a big story and you need to know about this as well.

We're going to discuss many things with Dr. Mishot here today,

including long-term objectives around development and transformation of our life

into this new future that's coming.

So this is by far the most important topic you could possibly understand,

but perversely, it's actually one of the least studied and least well understood areas given the enormity of the challenges and the implications if we get it wrong.
