My guest today is an actor, director and writer whose very first job in theatre came when

he wrote a letter to Laurence Olivier, the old Vic, who gave Micky in the box office.

His debut as a director was for Shirley Valentine in the West End, not a bad start, and

his first film appearance was in Amadeus, directed by Milos Schwarman.

He was a stalwart cast member in motion ivory films such as Room of the View and Howard's

End, and turned in a multiple scene steaming performances, garrath in four weddings in a funeral.
