Summary

Through her own experience of becoming a single parent, Zoe Desmond wanted to change the often isolated picture for people in similar situations. So she set up the Frolo app, aimed at helping to foster a community focussed on the joy of solo parenting, rather than the negative stereotypes often perpetuated by society and the media. It was through the app that Zoe met journalist Rebecca Cox, herself a single mother to a young child, who shared many of the same concerns as her and others in their community. So they decided to write a book about it, How To Be A Happy Single Parent, a practical handbook for anyone parenting alone, or thinking about doing so. This week they chat to Jen about their experiences, the shared experiences of single parents, how society could better support them, and thee joy to be found in bringing up a child on your own. a one-year-old, who shared many of the same concerns as her and others in their community.

So having noticed the same questions coming up again and again, they decided to write a book

about it how to be a happy single parent, which is a practical handbook for anyone parenting

alone or maybe thinking about doing so. This week I talked to them about the shared experiences

1:08.8

of single parents, how society could better support single parents and the joys to be found

1:15.3

in bringing up a small one on your own. Obviously I myself am a single parent, so I found

1:21.4

the chat absolutely fascinating and I hope that you will enjoy it too.

I am joined by Zoe Desmond. Hi. Rebecca Cox. Hello, thanks for having me. Thank you for

being here. Co-authors of the new book How to Be a Happy Single Parent. If you've got

1:40.6

the answers, I'm here for them guys. We'll come to the book in just a minute, but first

1:46.4

because this is kind of integral to the story. So you're also the founder of the Frollo app,

1:52.6

which I think, unless I've misunderstood this, is that how you two actually met?

1:56.7

Yes, we met via Frollo, and actually Rebecca was the very first person on the Frollo

2:05.2

podcast, so it's weird, it's a serendipity out of bed.

Can you tell us a little bit for the people who are listening to you maybe, aren't single
