Hi, Hannah here and welcome to this episode of Sunday Chops. This week I'm going to be chatting

about an issue that's not had a lot of coverage in the media, but really deserves it. And that's

violence against shop workers. I recently went to a meeting of my local Labour Party and heard

the speaker, the head of campaigns and public relations at the co-op, Paul Gerard, talking about

incidences of abuse, both verbal and physical, in my city's co-op stores. Now I live in Cambridge,

which if you don't know is quite a small city, quite an affluent city and has a pretty low

crime rate. And yet he reported that there have been more than 3,000 incidences of physical

and verbal attacks on co-op staff in the previous year, a quarter of which had involved a weapon.
