Summary

Here comes the sun (and here comes more confusion over the Covid guidelines).

Adam and Chris try to figure out what’s been going on today with the coronavirus regs, with Labour MP, Liz Kendall, who says she found out about it all on Twitter!

Friend of the podcast and BBC weatherman, Owain Wyn Evans, gives us his (hopefully soon-to-be-hot) take on why we've had such a rain-drenched May.

And, a year on from George Floyd’s murder, Roshan Roberts and De-Graft Mensah, from the If You Don’t Know podcast, talk coping strategies in 2020.

Today’s Newscast was made by Emma Close with Georgia Coan and Alix Pickles. Dino Sofos is the Editor.

Hello, there is actually sometimes a silver lining, and literally in this case,

0:10.8

the weather has been terrible, and we want to find out why but it's an excuse to get our favorite drumming BBC weather man on

0:18.0

A wine with Evans. Hello!

0:39.5

into spring and we think oh it's spring is here this is nice you know the summer's on the way

0:44.3

then let's get some sunshine but of course the past month hasn't been like that we've

0:48.4

had a lot of rain you know some places Balar North Wales and top cliff in North Yorkshire for example had you know some places Balar in North Wales and top cliff in North Yorkshire for example

0:54.1

had you know twice the amount of rainfall than what we'd expect in in the whole month of

0:59.1

May and that was you know just a couple of weeks in now the reason as to why this has happened is we've

1:04.6

essentially had several areas of low pressure moving in from the west. Now when we

1:09.5

talk about low pressure we talk about rain and unsettled weather because that is essentially the

1:16.0

product of low pressure and we've had a blocking pattern so that means that what

1:21.0

we've had has been relentless and we haven't seen much of a change.

1:25.6

The jet stream, which is, you often hear us chatter, but you know, the jet stream.

1:29.0

Love the jet stream.

1:30.0

Love a jet stream.

1:31.1

And it plays an important role actually in our weather because it's almost like a bit of a conveyor belt that brings weather in from the west from the Atlantic in our case and you know brings it towards us.
