At Hillsdale College. This is the third of four special episodes. We are pre recording because Victor will be traveling and we did not want there to be an empty zone with no Victor. So we had asked our listeners for questions and many sent in questions. So these are listener questions, special episodes. We thank those who have provided these questions.

0:58.0

Have provided these and Victor today. We'll try to get to at least two full questions and maybe part of a third, but we'll talk about your thoughts on social media. And then since this episode, I believe is coming out on the 4th of July.

1:16.0

I have a I have a war war to question that I think just might be appropriate for the day. And we'll see what else we have time for. So we'll get to your social media thoughts, Victor, right after these important messages.

1:31.0

We're back with the Victor Davis Hanson show. So Victor Nick from Clifton Park writes this. He says the psychologist Jonathan hate has said it in his excellent book.

1:54.0

The righteous mind and absolutely fantastic book in my opinion.

1:59.0

Right's Nick from Clifton Park stated we are still in the infancy of social media.

2:05.0

He likened it to the first year or two after television or newsprint became widely.

2:11.0

A communist, not communist, but community community community. Where do you, Victor Davis Hanson see social media ending up and what effects do you see and what time frame do you see this happening.

2:26.0

I don't know if you have a crystal ball, Victor, but you know, maybe you have some thoughts on are we in the degree with hate? Are we in the infancy and any other broader thoughts you might have about the social media.

2:40.0

Well, I think the big elephant in the moment is artificial intelligence already professors are seeing students, you know, that can turn in papers that they didn't write and they just type in guidelines and then it's use it out and we're

2:56.0

going to put it this way. What we thought the internet and social media we're going to do is we can we create in the terms of Facebook, the family Thanksgiving dinner only electronically or this church social and Twitter or Google was going to be

3:16.0

going to put it in the world's knowledge and your palm that turned out to warping group Google searches are making sure Christmas was never there on the 25th on the head header on a Google search.

3:29.0

So it's not going to be a lot of information or laptop suppression or FBI so it deteriorated and the problem with all of this is that it's electronic sized in other words it's sped up.

3:43.0

So unlike the printed word or writing or reading or a book or a magazine that it's instant. That's why you have people who will tweet, tweet, and make a full of themselves and then all of a sudden we'll go down the so called memory machine or

3:58.0

they'll have others will have a program called the way back machine to get it back out because it's kind of like electronic quits or stutters or burps and there's no reflection involved of all of social media just instant stream of conscience can be good but I think it's becoming a bastardized dangerous form of communication and I'm always struck by when I was in the world, I was like, I'm not sure if I was going to be able to do that.

4:26.0

By when I get letters in the mail, I get through for a week from readers, they're always better composed more thoughtful than and I don't write very many myself anymore than people that just post on Facebook, not that you can't do it on email, but it's just it just speeds up everything and speed is the enemy of deliberation and audit.

4:51.0

So that's a big problem and then what are we talking about Jack we're talking about I know that there's Austin and there's a Portland and there's Seattle and there's a research triangle there's little a tolls of social media but we're basically talking about 70 square miles in Silicon Valley or that 80 mile corridor between San Francisco and Sunnyvale and we're talking about Facebook and Google and Apple.

5:21.0

We're talking about the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the San Francisco and the
