In no way do I believe that it was a robbery gone bad. I believe the person or

persons planned it. I believe they calculated it. It is unsettling to me that

they are still out there and it really makes me angry. I don't ever want that

person or those people to think that they got away with it.

Late one March afternoon, 48-year-old Garth Rector arrives at his home in

rural Indiana and as usual goes to let his dog Dolce out of her crate. The six

month old Pitbull was likely barking, trying to warn Garth that there's an

intruder in the house. But it's too late. A bullet rips through Garth's body.

Then more shots in quick succession. The only witness to the brutal murder is

Garth's dog. The shooter escapes into the night.

It's March 21st, 2008. In the tiny county of Cowan near Muncie, Indiana, Garth

Rector looks forward to a family trip out of state. Garth's older sister

Marty is retiring from the Marines and they're celebrating at her home in

Carlsbad, California. Garth's youngest sister Angie Mock has already left for

the event and Garth plans to head for the airport later that evening. We know

that Garth left work roughly 30 minutes late. We're not really sure why he

left work late. Clocked out at 3.30, stopped at the market and got a few things

for the trip. Got home. I'm guessing roughly five o'clock give or take. He said

you know he was going to wake up about 11 o'clock, take a shower, pack everything

in the car and he was going to head Indianapolis and pick up his daughter April.
