I'm just going to come out and say it.

Contempt is an affront to God.

And unfortunately, contempt is all too common in marriages that kind of get past a certain point.

And what is contempt, really?

And I heard one definition that I found so convicting and compelling and clear.

And it is that contempt is a mixture between anger and disgust.

And so when we start to feel angry and disgusted with our spouse, that is a big, a big issue.

And in fact, the Gottman's who are very smart people, they call it one of the four horsemen of a relationship, meaning that's like the apocalypse of a relationship.

And so this whole episode is really dedicated to looking at where does this attitude of contempt come from? Right. What is contempt? What does it look like in our marriage

and how can we start seeing those seeds and uprooting them? Because it's so easy for us to like have a

thought and just sweep it on the carpet. Ah, no big deal. But then when those thoughts start taking

habit and they're consistent in our minds and where that goes.

And I'll contend that contempt is really the result of not seeing and understanding the truths of who God is and who he's called us to be and how he's created us, both as men and women, as husbands and wives and what he's called us into.

It's when we disbelieve or misbelieve that truth somehow, that then we have the fertile ground for seeds of contempt. So we're going to look clearly at what are some of the signs and seeds.
