The life of Sid Jones prior to the crime that sent him to prison is a bit of a mystery.

Not even his date of birth is known, but some sources say he was originally from Alabama.

He was thought to have been a member of the African American military regiment known as the 10th Cavalry Regiment,

and at some point was stationed in Monterey, California,

which is how he ended up in the company of a deputy sheriff named W.S. Mosley,

a man who he allegedly shot and killed, though even the details on this remain sparse.

He was given life in prison and while behind bars allegedly killed a fellow prisoner. Most

likely, a man named Cleve Waters. Having committed two murders, this time Sid wasn't spared and was given

the death penalty. He was executed on June 25, 1915. Now, you would think this was the end of

Sid Jones's story, but when officers went to his prison cell after he was declared dead,

they found a letter he must have written just before his execution.
