As expected, the government shutdown will continue into the new year and one Republican senator

says negotiations are getting nowhere.

He told CBS News the shutdown could last a long long time.

The shutdown is now in its second week and remember the main thing causing the

standoff is funding

bill bill that crosses his desk before he'll sign it and end the shutdown.

In fact, on Friday, he even threatened to shut down the

U.S. border with Mexico altogether, if he doesn't get what he wants.

But Democrats still say it's not going to happen.

And really, the Washington Post says it's not even clear if Trump could actually shut
