Let's do this. The government shutdown is officially over now, but some say it gave both parties a bit of a black guy.

So first, what happened? Well, there were enough votes from Senate Democrats

yesterday to go ahead and pass a short-term solution. It funds the government just through

February 8th, and it also adds a six-year extension to a program called Chip, the Children's Health Insurance

Program that ensures millions of kids.

But Democrats also wanted permanent DACA protections, so a key part of this deal was a promise from the top Republicans.

That promise is to allow an immigration vote in the coming weeks.

A chance for Congress to pass permanent protections for so-called dreamers, the young undocumented immigrants

that were brought to the US as children.

The AP reports not all Democrats were on board with pushing this decision out to yet another

date. An activist for immigrants' rights are pretty

disappointed. But bottom line is that the short-term spending bill passed both the

Senate and the House and got the President's signature. So that means the shutdown is over and the hundreds of

thousands of federal employees who were furloughed yesterday will be back to work
