Summary

In this fifth message, Dr. Youssef shows that true mercy is a mark of those who are being shaped into the likeness of Christ. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Mercy is not weakness, nor is it sentimental tolerance of sin. Mercy flows from a heart that has first been broken over sin, humbled in meekness, and made hungry for the righteousness of God. It is the compassion that acts, the love that forgives, and the grace that reflects the cross—where justice and mercy met through Christ’s shed blood. As believers extend mercy, they place themselves under the continual outpouring of God’s own mercy, becoming channels of His compassion and witnesses to His Gospel. 0:12.9	have evaporated from society. Polarization of culture and views, even on faith topics,

0:56.1	and let me repeat, that this is a superstructure. This is a step-by-step program. This is not
1:02.6	you can jump into one of those steps. Jesus was not just plucking stuff out of the air.
1:07.7	Blessed are you and blessed are you, blessed in you. No, no, no, he had them totally structured in such a way that you cannot go to the second step without
1:16.9	going to the first one, and you cannot go to the third one without going through the second step.
1:22.8	Why are these steps necessary? Well, I'm glad to answer because Jesus meets us where we are,
1:30.8	because Jesus leads us one step at a time, because Jesus guides us up the letter of the
1:39.6	Christian life one rung at a time. So he began with brokenness in spirit. Poverty in spirit or brokenness in
1:48.3	spirit. You have to start there. Without that brokenness in spirit, we will not feel the need for God.
1:56.7	Without that brokenness in spirit, the very first step we take to come to Christ, we don't
2:02.3	feel a need for Christ.
2:05.2	And then after being broken in spirit, you begin to recognize the gravity of our sin,
2:12.8	and begin to grieve over sin and mourn over sin, and then we constantly come to him in repentance over our sin.
2:21.2	Thirdly, we saw how Jesus takes us into the third step, which is meekness. And as we saw,
