Hello and welcome to the political party.

This episode features our first ever academic, Professor Roger Scully,

Professor of Political Science at Cardiff University.

Those of you who follow the academic side of politics will be

familiar with Roger, who won a PSA award.

Last year he regularly pops up as a pundit on TV and radio

and he's absolutely fascinating. He's got a new book out that we discuss.

Amongst other things, it's called the end of British Party politics.

It's out next month, April 2018, published by Biteback.

And it contributes a large amount to the conversation,

ideas of national identity within the United Kingdom,

the idea that a UK-wide British politics is being hollowed out,

whether that's a desirable thing.

How can it be reversed?

We talk about the conversation. I can't big this up enough.

Goes down various avenues, all of which are absolutely fascinating.

We talk about the likely pressures on politics in the next 5, 10, 20 years.

And Roger, as with a lot of academics, has a very different perspective on politics

to politicians, advisers or journalists.

He's taken a longer view, a more scientific approach to politics.

And as a result, it's just a completely different interview.
