Hello, I'm welcome to the latest edition of The Political Party. This one featuring former

chancellor, Alistair Darling. Alistair is someone that I've wanted to interview for a long time.

And it's taken me a couple of years, I think, to convince him to come and do the show.

And he didn't disappoint. He was a great mix of wit and charm and deep

political experience and judgment and economic expertise.

And ten years on since the credit crunch, it was fascinating talking to him about being at the

centre of all that from a government point of view. Because of course he was the person who

designed the rescue package that saved the UK economy and even though it was a mispeak when

Gordon Brown said it, saved the world in economic terms. So it deserves a huge credit for that.

Thank you to all of you who came on the note. It was fantastic in the debating hall at the

Guild of Balloon huge place where Alistair and I had our chat. And we talked about various things

as you can imagine, Gordon Brown and Brexit, the election, the financial crash. Scottish independence

because he was at the heart of that as well leading the better together campaign. He is a, as you

really imagine, very charming and exceptionally intellectual individual and was just great company
