Hello and welcome to the political party. Today's guest is Bridget Philipson, the Secretary of State for Education, and also one of the two candidates to be Labor's deputy leader.

Now, the ballot papers go out in a couple of days.

So this contest is happening immediately.

There's only a couple of weeks left, and it's between Bridget and Lucy Powell.

And we talk about the contest in detail about what Bridget would bring to the deputy leadership,

what she would do for Labour Party members.

Also her record as Secretary of State, the experience of being in Cabinet for a year after all those years in opposition. And also her life, what led her to politics, what made her so impatient

to change the world, what has given her that, particularly on education, that that real

singular drive to change things particularly

for kids from working class backgrounds like hers.

So this is wide-ranging.

She's also, there's some incredible facts

that come out of this about her,

particularly a musical interest and where that's like that. And for a shy kid,

some of the things she's ended up doing are really quite incredible. So there's some great

personal anecdotes in here and tons of good politics in it as well. And right in the

middle of this contest. So it'd be fascinating to see what happens. My next guest at the Duchess Theatre

Clegg. And it'll be phenomenal talking to him about not just his time in government,

but obviously what he's been doing since working with Mark Zuckerberg at Meta and AI.
