Hello and welcome to the political party. This episode features the former chancellor, former

foreign secretary and former many things, Philip Hammond. And this is a real surprise because

Philip, when he was on telly, and by which I mean, as a politician, when he was in the House of

Commons, when he was dispatching his duties at the highest level of British politics,

always a very professional man. And I think you didn't always get a huge sense about his

personality, but he's really funny, got a great dry sense of humour. And this is a real insight

into the different motivations of politicians because they're not all driven by exactly the same

thing. And this is really candid about why he's a conservative. But it's also his interactions with

the Tory party. He doesn't come necessarily from a classic high level Tory background. And he just

has a relaxed manner in the right way. He's obviously had a real respect for people who value

public office. And when he talks about Boris Johnson and Liz Truss in this, it's fantastic and

about Theresa May. But he's also just an approach to politics and an ethos rather than anything

ideological really. And he's quite, well, I won't ruin anything, but he's a great story to telly,

really funny from the outset. And this is just such a refreshing experience because he's just

been totally open and honest. And it's really, it just makes you realise that sometimes, now obviously,

given, you know, you know, where I've done these things, I'm broadly supportive of people that go

into politics and think that on the whole, they are well-meaning and are trying to change the world

for the better. But even with that philosophy, you don't always get a sense of what people

are really, really like. And I think this is, this may take some of you by surprise because

it's very funny, it's very relaxed. But also, it reinforces the things that you would expect from

Philip Hammond that he is professional. He does care about public service. He cares about

conducting office and all those things make for this a really good fun interview. And of course,
