Summary

Kim McGuinness If you've been desperate to hear from a leading non-Westminster politician (and even if you haven't), you're in for a massive treat. Kim McGuinness is the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria and the first Police and Crime Commissioner to feature on the show. She tells Matt all about the job of the Commissioner, the huge impact they can have, the limits on them and the political aspects of such a unique role. It's also a timely reminder that some of our brightest and best politicians aren't in Westminster... Hello and welcome to the Political Party. I hope you're well and looking after yourself.

This episode features Kim McGinnis, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria. Over

0:18.2

the years I've had so many messages from people wanting to hear more from politicians

0:21.7

outside of Westminster. So here you go. And what better politician to talk to because

0:27.6

the role itself is fascinating. It's created by the coalition government. We have

0:31.8

Police and Crime Commissioners across the UK now. To my shame, Kim is the first Police

0:36.4

and Crime Commissioner that I've featured on the show. But this is great because it's

0:40.4

about the politics of the specific role, which is not, it's kind of local politics, but

0:44.8

it's also about policing and crime. So as its own parameters, it's also about the size

0:50.3

of the area that Kim covers. Also, it's a timely reminder that some of our best politicians

0:56.3

are outside of Westminster. So this has got everything in there. It was absolutely fascinating.
