Summary

The co-leader of the Green Party joins Matt for a brilliant chat about the opportunities and risks for the Greens at this election as well as a great conversation about how they influence the powerful and the public in general. Are they being squeezed by Jeremy Corbyn? How do they differ in their approach to Extinction Rebellion? How can you find out about what information the police have on you? Is Matt in trouble for drinking from a single use plastic bottle? There's only one way to find out... Hello and welcome to the political party, Daily. This episode features Sean Berry, co-leader

0:12.4

of the Green Party, and it's a brilliant chat, not just about the Green Manifesto in this

0:16.7

election, but how Green movements try and influence not just the powerful, but the public,

0:21.3

the differences in approach between the Green Party and say extinction rebellion and all

0:26.4

the other things you would expect to talk about. And maybe a few things you didn't. I won't

0:30.6

say anymore because I know you'll listen to this every day and I don't want to keep you

0:33.3

fairly longer on your commute or your bath or worry of you listening to this on the bus.

0:38.8

So I've started by asking Sean how the campaign was going for the Green Party.

0:48.7

It's very exciting so far, the campaign. I mean, actually we've made it to the climate

0:52.9

election. I say we as in the movement and the Greens for being so bold with our policies.

0:59.5

I think the beginning of the campaign we put forwards our Green you deal. Everyone was

1:04.1

quite taken aback by the fact that we proposed to put in £100 billion a year of investment

1:09.6

for 10 years, which if you add that up as a trillion pounds. And they've looked at it. All the

1:15.8

commentators have looked at it and they've said actually yes, this is probably what's needed

1:21.2

and actually it's probably affordable and it will pay back. And I'm very proud of the fact

1:25.0

that we were so bold about that and the fact that it's withstood all the scrutiny that we've

1:29.0

had so far. The other parties are putting forwards lesser amounts of investment in Green stuff.

1:33.7

And so again, we've been able to challenge them. And I think that's really the role that the Greens

1:38.6

play when we get elected, but also it's great when it works out during an election because it

1:42.5

really pushes the window that's a lot of scrutiny on people candidates parties during elections.

1:47.5

If we can get in at that point, it's a proper success for us.

1:51.2

A lot of people call it the Brexit election though. Is that a problem for you or is it an
