Israeli soldiers are using what one intelligence source called incredibly crappy algorithms

to determine whether a house is empty before bombing it,

leading them to approve airstrikes on buildings that are still occupied by civilians,

according to a new report from 972 magazine.

Rather than assessing the targets individually, the Israeli army relies on the algorithms,

which are based on phone usage data, to mark neighborhoods as green,

meaning that fewer than 20% of residents remain there.

Everything is green, recalled an anonymous intelligence source.
