Summary

The media will meet with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith today at 11:30 a.m. There are a number of things Bucknuts is curious to ask Smith, but at the top of the list is what to do about players being able to profit off of their name, image and likeness in college athletics. Right now, it's basically the wild west with no rules. Should there be regulations? If so, what should they entail?

Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, the scholarship crunch that the football team faces, the Buckeyes' basketball team getting rolling at the right time and more.

All of that is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish.

and then I'm most curious to hear his answer on, and curious to get your answer

1:01.6

on this as well, Bax. Can we do something about name, image, and likeness?

1:05.2

Because right now it's the Wild West. So, can it be regulated?

1:09.2

Should it be regulated? And if it should be regulated, how can it be regulated?

1:13.9

That's why I'm going to ask Gene, what are your thoughts on that?

1:16.8

Should it be regulated? And if so, how can it be regulated?

1:20.2

Well, I think there's a couple things that we have to answer before we even get into that,

1:24.1

such as when can you engage with players for NIL opportunities?

1:29.6

And by that I mean, there are some schools that are currently recruiting kids

1:34.7

with clear laid out concise NIL plans, such as every Texas offensive lineman gets $50,000

1:40.8

a year on scholarship, right? Then there are schools that go as you that have their big shot

1:47.2

and steam cartel Jones Foundation, but as far as we can tell, are not engaging on that actively

1:52.9

with students in terms of when you're recruiting them, at least, there's promise of that,

1:58.8

but there are no locked in deals, if you will. So, I think the first thing that needs to be asked is
