Summary
In this long-form weekend podcast - Glenn discusses legal reform and the legal recap of the week. First up: Glenn talks about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He's under fire after accepting luxury gifts and real estate from a billionaire GOP donor. Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin is now asking Chief Justice John Roberts to testify about ethics on May 2nd but will Roberts show up? Then he discusses the Dominion defamation lawsuit against Fox News. It has been settled for 3 quarters of a billion dollars but Smartmatic voting systems and others are also suing Fox. Will any of them make it to trial? Next he talks about Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg who has filed a lawsuit to stop Congressman Jim Jordan from talking with N.Y. Prosecutor Mark Pomerantz about his investigation of Donald Trump. A Trump appointed judge had denied Braggs request but then a federal appeals court issued an administrative stay temporarily blocking the deposition. Next Glenn speaks about reform. With recent mass shootings becoming more frequent and MAGA extremists shooting random people they feel is a threat - Glenn wonders -Is there something President Biden can do to stop the bloodshed? And lastly he discusses criminal reform. Prosecutors have not many options when they are faced with a decision on whether they should charge someone with a crime. Glenn explains there have been some success stories with diversion programs that can lessen the incarceration rate and actually help former criminals onto the right path and not back to jail.
