Summary

The pre-tribulational rapture theory, popularized by John Nelson Darby in the nineteenth century, contends that God has two distinct people and two distinct plans for their two distinct destinies. The church will be raptured—what David Jeremiah dubs “the Great Disappearance—seven years prior to the second coming of Christ, and Jews will suffer tribulation. Beginning with Darby, rapture theorists hold that, due to the murder of Messiah, Jews were in for a time of unprecedented suffering referred to as the “Great Tribulation.” The late Tim LaHaye, co-author of the Left Behind series, described the coming Jewish holocaust as “Antichrist’s ‘final solution’ to the Jewish problem.’” According to LaHaye, “the mind-boggling terror and turmoil of the Tribulation” will be a nightmarish reality far exceeding “even the Holocaust of Adolf Hitler in the twentieth century.” These ideas have been firmly planted in the minds of millions today through Dr. Jeremiah’s global ministry—but Christians everywhere must critically assess these claims with the following question—is the pre-tribulational rapture theory biblical? For more on this check out the special print edition of the Christian Research Journal entitled “A Biblical Response to Christian Zionism.” Click the following link for more information: A Biblical Response to Christian Zionism – Christian Research Institute.  https://www.equip.org/product/special-print-issue-of-the-christian-research-journal-a-biblical-response-to-christian-zionism-hup/

Well, welcome to another edition of the Hank Unplug podcast.

0:26.7

This is a special edition in that it is part of our teaching series.

0:34.0

We just came out with a brand new edition of the Christian Research Journal.

0:40.1

This particular journal is devoted wholly to one purpose,

0:48.7

and that is to provide a biblical response to Christian Zionism.

0:55.2

Christian Zionism. Christian Zionism is fraught with mythology.

1:01.8

One of those myths is the idea that God has two distinct peoples, Jews and the church. In this myth, in this mythology, it is believed that the Jews will suffer tribulation.

1:24.6

Tribulation unlike they have ever suffered before.

1:30.3

It is often said that what they will encounter will make the Nazis look like Girl Scouts

1:42.3

weaving a daisy chain. In other words, the Nazi Holocaust pales

1:49.6

by comparison to what they are about to face in the future. So that's the one people of God.

2:01.3

The second people of God is the church.

2:04.6

So God has two peoples, Israel, and the church.

2:13.0

And with respect to the church, the belief is that they are going to be raptured from the world in a

2:22.8

secret coming seven years prior to the second coming of Christ. And this distinctive twist on

2:33.7

scripture is known as dispensational eschatology.

2:40.4

Again, this particular issue of the Christian Research Journal is devoted to exploding

2:48.1

the mythology of Christian Zionism.

2:53.6

Christian Zionism, of course, predating secular Zionism by a long period of time.

3:03.6

So the first question that I want to address, what I want to devote my time to in this particular

3:10.6

teaching series, is the question, is the pre-tribulational rapture, is that theory actually biblical?

3:23.2

Is there any basis for it, not only in the Bible, but even in holy tradition which gave
