Welcome to this edition of Time Suck Short Sucks. I'm Dan Cummins and today I'll be sharing the tale of Van Life Nightmare, the Gavi Pateeto story.

On July 2nd, 2021, 22 year old Gavi Patee, and her fiance, 23-year-old Brian Laundry, left the

quaint hamlet of Blue Point Long Island to embark upon a cross-country adventure in a

white modified 2012 Ford Transit Connect van.

Less than two months later on August 27th,

Gavi would be seen alive for the last time in Jackson, Wyoming.

Soon a nationwide search for Gavi would be launched and what followed would first

captivate the online world of social media, blogs, and then the national

mainstream media, unlike any other missing person's case had in years.

Words and ideas can change the world.

I hated her, but I wanted to love my mother.

I have a dream.

I'll plead not guilty right now. Your only chance is to leave with us.

Digging into the details of today's story gave me a lot to think about. Some things to keep in mind as I tell

this tale. What falls inside the limits of responsibility regarding law enforcement officers

when it comes to responding to a complaint of domestic violence.

In a situation where both members of a couple have minor scratches on their faces, for example,

should you automatically assume that the bigger and stronger looking person is the guilty

party even if the smaller person quickly tells you that they struck first is that

fair do you automatically assume in a male female domestic violence situation that the male is the aggressor?

Is that rational or is that sexist?

And when someone is later murdered following a domestic violence report if officers got it wrong
