Summary

Two shot dead in Washington DC, in an attack that shocked many but surprised few. Meanwhile, a string of Israel’s longtime allies denounce the country over the blockade of aid to Gaza, even threatening sanctions. Yonit and Jonathan discuss what’s next and what to make of the partial resumption of humanitarian aid. Plus, they’re joined by fellow Jewish podcaster Jonah Platt, taking the temperature at this moment of angst and revealing what it means to be a Jew in Hollywood in 2025—the challenges and the moments of light. Jonah Platt is an American actor, singer, writer, and director known for his role as Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway. He’s appeared in TV shows like The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and written for Family Guy. An advocate for Jewish identity and education, Platt hosts the podcast Being Jewish with Jonah Platt and actively participates in various Jewish organizations. He hails from a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, being the son of producer Marc Platt and brother to actor Ben Platt.

1:18.5

And that is when there were shot. It's just that thought. And for Israelis, I apologize

1:24.4

for taking that perspective just for a moment, but this happened at 3 a.m. Israel is in the

central part of this country who were woken up by a Houthi missile making its way in our direction.

1:35.9

So I think many people, including myself, who were awoken in the dead of night, couldn't go back to sleep and then just kept scrolling your phone.

1:44.2

And then an hour later, as I said, this happened.

1:47.0

You know, it kind of reminds you that we're all in this together.

1:49.5

We can argue until smoke comes out of our ears, if the war in Gaza should end, you know,

1:54.8

criticize the Israeli government, all of that.

1:56.9

But at the end of the day, we're in this together.

1:59.4

Yes, I mean, and bound up together.

2:02.2

I think that's a point we've been making on the podcast from the start

2:05.1

is that in a way, you know, the Jewish destiny, the Jewish future in diaspora

2:11.1

and Israel's destiny in future are bound up with each other.
