I love where we're going the next few weeks.

We're talking about shift and we're doing that around probably the most well-known prayer

in the history of humanity, and that's the Lord's prayer, the prayer that Jesus taught

us to pray in the middle of this amazing sermon called the Sermon on the Mount.

And if you don't know a lot about where we're coming from today, all this is about Jesus,

of course.

And as Jesus came on earth, his life and teachings are recorded primarily in the Gospels

of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

And in Matthew's Gospel, one of Jesus' early sermons is recorded, Matthew 5, 6, and 7.

And it's the core teaching of Jesus about the kingdom of God coming among men.

Jesus had been baptized, the dove had descended, and the voice of God had come announcing that

this is my beloved son.

And then not long after that, Jesus gave this message called the Sermon on the Mount.

And what Jesus was trying to do, just to give a little bit of a framework for the Sermon

on the Mount, was to say to people that there are two kingdoms going on on earth, but there's

only one that's going to endure forever.

Jesus had come to earth into the here and now to announce that there is another kingdom

that lasts forever.

So he was living in the present, but he was thinking about eternity.

He was living in the same world you and our living and breathing the same air that we're

breathing, but he knew where he had come from and where he was going to.

In the meantime, he was trying to lift our gaze up to another kingdom.
