Okay, I'm not crazy about comparing the human body to machines or technology, but sometimes it helps to look at it that way.

And when it comes to our nervous systems, we basically have two gears.

We shift up into the sympathetic nervous system response, and we shift down into the parasympathetic nervous system response.

And I think it's helpful to think of it this way for two reasons.
