Welcome back to this week's episode of The Emily Show. Today we are talking about

Sherry Papini. I've been asked about this case a lot. It is at the very early stages of criminal

prosecution and for a federally prosecuted case, it's wandering along a little bit differently than

some of the other cases I've covered. And there is a whole lot of information in this initial complaint.

So I'm going to give you a very, very brief rundown if this is your first time hearing about the case,

which I'm sure that it probably isn't, but in case it is, a very brief rundown. And then we're

just going to go through this complaint. What it means, what the charges are, time that she is

facing for allegedly hoaxing her own kidnapping. What is with hoax crimes? This isn't a thing.

And I always worry so much about covering these cases because a lot of time the investigation

points out what people did badly that led everyone to believe this was a hoax. And I don't want to

help people get better at doing shit like this, right? We don't want to help people hoax crimes

better. It always worries me when we talk about the Jesse Smollett case. It's like, well,

here are all the things that made investigators and others think that this was a fake crime. So if

somebody wants to fake a crime in the future, there's like a lot on the internet for them to study.

I don't want to make people be better at doing stuff. But I also think we need to break it down

and talk about it. So today, we are going to break this down and talk about it. And I have to tell

you, reading through this was tough for me because the thought that kept going through my head, and

Dr. B and I talked about this a little bit, but who does this to their spouse and to their kids?

Like, and even if you're over your spouse, like, I get it, if you're over your spouse fine,

and I'll probably say this again, but how do you do this to your kids? Like, I just, it's very hard

for me to wrap my head around. But again, Sherry Papini is been arrested. She's been released on

bond. She is presumed innocent. We are going to go through the allegations against her. And if
