With your $300 in her pocket, Marcia Kilgore moved from Canada to join her sister in New York.

Canada, but you famously moved to New York,

age 17. Why did you do that? I had been to New York to visit my oldest sister when I was 16,

and I found it really enthralling, interesting, vibrant, and stimulating. And when I went back to Canada

for my last couple of years of high school, I kind of knew I couldn't stay there anymore when there was something like New York out there. So when I graduated from 12th grade,

I decided that I was going to go to New York and try and make a go of it. Doing what? Did not know.
