Summary

We all know that a key part of addressing climate change involves getting off fossil fuels. But renewable energies, such as solar energy, are not without costs. One key cost? It uses a lot of land. The team at How to Save a Planet takes a look at one creative solution to this problem – mixing solar panels with agriculture. And they are not at all sheepish about the role of one very adorable four legged animal. Featuring How to Save a Planet.   SUPPORT Outside/In is made possible with listener support. This is Outside In. I'm Justine Paradise. It's the end of the year and I think this is

0:10.4

a really nice time to share things that brought us a little joy this year. So today we're

0:18.0

sharing something, a story about a climate solution that could be described as cute.

0:24.1

Not a word that you hear describing climate solutions very often.

0:29.0

It comes from our friends at the podcast How to Save a Planet from Gimlet.

0:33.4

And let's just dive in, shall we? Enjoy, have a new year, and we'll catch you in a couple of weeks.

0:46.0

Welcome to How to Save a Planet. I'm Alex Bloomberg and this is the show where we talk about

0:49.6

what we need to do to address climate change and how to make those things happen.

0:59.4

Hey, Kendra. Hey, Alex. So you are an elite member of the crack producing and reporting team

1:12.6

here at How to Save a Planet. And you're here to tell us about something you recently did.

1:17.0

You went on your first field reporting trip for the podcast. I did. Literally. I was in a field.

1:24.6

You know that's not what field reporting means, right? Like it doesn't mean you have to go to a field.

1:29.0

Wait, I've been doing it wrong the entire time. What were you doing, field reporting in the

1:33.9

literal field? I was making friends with with sheep. Yes, those are sheep. Oh, they're coming,

1:44.3

they're like running. Hello, this is number five. She was hand raised. So that's her name, not her

1:53.4

number. So the voice you're hearing apart from the sheep is this woman named Judy St. Ledger.

2:01.5

She's a shepherd and she tells me this delightful backstory behind number five's name.

2:06.7

So this girl was born in 2016. Save that. And she was the fifth of a set of quintuplets. Now,

2:17.0

sheep will commonly have one or two babies, but five was unheard of for us either before or since. So

2:26.6

she's a well-beloved member of the flock. I love. Like are you just like surrounded by sheep as you're

2:33.9

talking to Judy? Yeah. And did you hear them breathing? Like, because they were like sniffing the

2:38.2

microphone. It was great. Five. And you know, her kin. They don't really know it, but they're all
