How does a Columbia-educated lawyer, a Wall Street banker, the owner of a thriving law firm,

and one of the most celebrated members of her community, end up in federal prison?

She lost her license, her freedom, and her identity as the perfect daughter who never made a mistake.

All of those blind spots and red flags were here, but I was so focused on

getting the client and keeping the client, that hunger drove me to not pay attention to the blind

spots. As attorneys, we're supposed to do our due diligence. We're supposed to ask for help.

We're supposed to do the background research. And I didn't do any of that. I did ask the questions I should have asked. I didn't listen to my gut.

One email on Christmas Eve. That's all it took. And then the FBI showed up.

I don't even have any memory, really, of what happened four years earlier. So these two agents come in and I didn't know I could tell them to leave, right?

So I left them into my office.

I used to have this circular table, like, right by my desk.

And they grills me for four hours.

And they showed me documents and pictures and emails.

And I'm answering questions, yes, no, yes, no.

And what she discovered inside an actual prison is that the wall we build for ourselves inside our own minds can be harder to escape than any walls with bars.

I always tell people, like, I had to lose my freedom to gain complete freedom.

I was living in these invisible prisons my entire life. I just didn't know that's what they were.
