mother rarely volunteered and never elaborated on unless pressed. Even then,

the details came cautiously, as if speaking too much might invite something back into the room.

Aaron grew up knowing, long before she understood why, that her mother carried something with her.

Not an illness, not a secret exactly, just a sense that certain subjects

were better left alone. The paranormal was one of them. When Aaron was old enough to ask questions,

her mother explained where it all began. She had been a child herself, no older than eight,
