Summary

It’s Witness Wednesday!

Todd Friel is back on campus to talk with students about their views on human value, morality, and faith.

Segment 1:

• Student starts with utilitarian ethics—humans are more valuable than dogs due to societal contribution.

• Conversation shifts dramatically: “Your job on earth is to glorify God.”

• Gives a clear, gospel-rich answer: “Believe on Jesus’ name—He gave me life.”

Segment 2:

• Julie’s theology: good people go to heaven—even if they don’t believe in hell.

• Walks through the Ten Commandments but still claims to be “a good person.”

• Learns the gospel: Jesus paid the fine, repentance and trust are the way to be saved.

Segment 3:

• Would you save a dog or a human—answers rooted in moral relativism, not absolute value.

• “Are you a good person?” sparks confusion: some say yes, others define good as “when I need to be.”

• Beliefs about the afterlife range from agnostic to cabalistic “spirit-unity-God.”

Segment 4:

• Final student values “potential” over intrinsic worth—would save schoolkids over a best friend.

• In a dying man scenario, offers vague comfort: “Ask for forgiveness… from whoever that is for you.”

• Todd closes with urgent exhortation: Know the gospel. Articulate the gospel. Teach the gospel.

It's Witness Wednesday. That means we go out into the streets, and that means that we talk to people about stuff.

Here's a fellow who's just sitting and having lunch. Let's see what kind of mood he's in if he'll let me bother him or not.

0:45.5

Sir, while you're eating lunch, could I ask you some questions for a radio show we're doing?

0:50.8

All right, sir, we're out here talking to people, and we're asking them philosophical questions. For instance, if you were by a swimming pool, came up on a swimming pool and a

stranger was drowning in the pool and needed to be rescued, but so was your dog. Now, you've only

got seconds to respond. You can only save one of them. Which one would you rescue? The stranger.

1:11.5

Why?

1:13.6

Because while I love my dog a lot, they are just animals, even though they are very good companions.

1:22.2

People are still more valuable than animals.

1:25.3

So you think people are more valuable.

1:26.7

Why do you think that?

1:30.4

Consciousness and contribution to society are the way that we have decided to value entities on this planet.

1:46.0

So, yes, that's why I think.

1:49.0

I'm going to run with that.
