These are my family members now, they're different from the family members, but they're my family

In this episode, I had the privilege of talking with one of my mentors, Detective Eileen Simpson

Eileen and I worked many cases together and we'll discuss three of them

Two of them have been the subject of other full episodes, and you'll recognize the names of those victims

Eileen had been in homicide for several years when I went to the Detective Division

And from the word go, she shared her incredible knowledge of homicide and narcotics investigations with me

And I looked to her for a direction to move when I would get frustrated

That the evidence wasn't panning out, and I relied on her to reassure me that we would find the answers we were searching for

We have a deep mutual respect, her philosophies about homicide investigations, and how she has handled her own emotional fallout from the hundreds of cases she investigated

Is unique, she's highly empathetic and extraordinarily productive

She is a real life hero in my eyes, and after hearing her, I think you'll think so too

My name is Eileen Simpson, and I spent 26 years with a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office 16 years in homicide

I retired in April, and now I am back door for the Sheriff's Office in a crime gun intelligence center

You were one of my first mentors, and thank you for everything you taught me
