and Culture and hopes to help Zimbabwe transition to a functioning democracy.

We spoke yesterday.

You're in a fairly unique position, I think.

Being somebody who has been an opponent of the Mugabe government in a very high-profile way,

transitioning into a position within that government.

What is that like?

It's been very difficult.

I often question whether I've done the right thing,

especially from the perspective

of being a human rights lawyer and knowing that crimes against

humanity have been committed and that through entering into this I lessen the chances

of those responsible for that ever being prosecuted.

And on top of that, of course, many of those responsible for these crimes in the past haven't changed their ways.

Even though they've been given this opportunity to redeem themselves,

they continue to act in a manner that

hampers the transition to democracy and greater transparency in society.

But what has kept me in this, what got me into it in the first place
