This move follows the political and social trend of legalization we have seen throughout the country in the past decade, with 23 states legalizing the drug for recreational use. The new recommendation will be reviewed by the DEA, but advocates have long pushed for this classification shift that would bolster the growing cannabis industry. Former FBI supervisory special agent Lance Leising explains what this means from a law enforcement perspective and how it sets the stage for national cannabis decriminalization down the road.
