Summary

The hickories (Carya) are a part of an ancient forest system that once existed across the entire northern hemisphere, from North America to Europe, across Asia to the Pacific and back again to the North America. This week, we chat about the shagbark hickory (Carya ovata) and discuss how it and it's closest relatives have been so successful, yet ended up so far from kin across the world.

What have you been doing that for years. All right, good. This is your moment to go down to full some prison a little bit. Kick some light bulbs. Yeah, all right. What is that referencing? Well, why would you kick a light bulb in Johnny Cash?

1:13.3

When he performed it full some prison to any kick a light bulb. Oh, I don't know. On the stage or something. Maybe I just have a I had this picture in my head of an image taken. I have an image in my head of a picture taken. Oh, okay, of Johnny Cash kicking a light bulb spring glass at everybody's face. Yeah, and they're just like. Yeah. Yeah. All right. They love it. For some reason, whenever I picture that like there's a scene I think in walk the line. Do you remember that movie? Oh, sure. Yes. I think I remember that scene.

1:43.3

And I'm thinking like, yeah, I think that's the scene I'm thinking of, but my brain constantly like says, no, no, no, no, no. The scene you're thinking of and then it flashes back to the producers by.

1:56.3

Mel Brooks and the movie version of it ends with them all like in prison, like putting together a prison musical I think. Oh, yes. That's that's syncing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The syncing, syncing, yes.

2:11.0

Or whatever. Yeah, that's what I that's what I think about all the time. It's like those two guys wearing like the prison strides, and I'm just like, yeah, that was that was Johnny Cash, right?

2:21.0

You just can flayed it. Yeah. I'm not sure they're the same. I just finished that season of Kirby enthusiasm where Mel Brooks gets Larry to be Leo, not Leopold Bloom.

2:32.0

Be allish, be allish stock. Yeah. I don't think I haven't seen that show obviously, but it's a good season of television.

2:40.0

Yeah. All right. There's a bit of a twist at the end. Do you mind if I tell you the twist? Yeah. Yeah. Spoiler alert everyone. Turn off your show. When did this come out?

2:47.0

Oh, years and years and years. Okay. Cause it's like, isn't there a certain statute of limitations on the spoilers? Yeah. There should be. Yeah. It's like spoiler alert, the Titanic syncs.

2:58.0

Right. You know, it's like everyone's like, wow, why'd you say that? This spoiler alert. Frankly, dear, he doesn't give a damn. Yeah.

3:05.0

Exactly. It's like, what? Oh my God. I thought that he cared for her.

3:10.0

It's whole time. What was your what was your spoiler? Well, that so Mel Brooks gets Larry David to be in this play, right?

3:18.0

And he's a disaster and he's not getting it. You know, ruins everybody's life or at the very end, it's revealed that Mel Brooks is pulling a producers.

3:26.0

He's trying to sink the show so he doesn't have to do it anymore.

3:30.0

Oh my God. And using Larry as his as his dead weight, it's pretty brilliant.

3:36.0

Oh, I love that. But the double twist is that Larry does fantastic and the show is a huge hit, just like the producers.

3:44.0

Of course. And Mel Brooks is just like, oh my God. Yeah, it's it's a fantastic season of television. I've just spoiled it for everybody. Hey, it's fine with me.
