Today, in the first of a two-part episode, we're hearing from Sergeant First Class Alana Duffy,

an army veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2004 and 2005, conducting

counterintelligence and interrogation operations.

In Iraq, Duffy suffered a traumatic brain injury from an IED.

So I joined the Army in, well, I signed my contract in September of 2002.

So less than a year after the U.S. entered Afghanistan.

And then I left for basic training in April of 2003, so about three weeks after we had crossed the berm and entered Iraq.
