I think at Google, you know, some of the inappropriate workplace relationships are kind of baked into the company's DNA.

They claim to be super progressive, but do the numbers support that? Do the experiences of those employees support that? Or is it all talk?

So I was 21 years old. I came to Mountain View, California. They took my picture, like, smiling in

front of a whiteboard, covered in equations for my security photo. And I felt like I was in the

center of the universe, writing code, testing that code, designing systems, designing projects,

a lot of debugging, a lot of very unglomerous drudge work.

Google was like my dream company.

This is Emmy Neatfeldt.

In 2015, she was a fresh-faced graduate just out of college.

A dream come true to be at Google, she says.

And even now, you can hear the thrill in her voice when she describes it.

But that feeling didn't last.

As an entry-level engineer, Emmy had two bosses to answer to, a line manager.

She says she liked him.

But then there was a more immediate superior, known as her tech lead.

He was, from the very start, a bit too friendly.

My tech lead was really the person who had control over, like, what I did every day.

And he would use our one-on-one meetings to, you know, ask me to set him up with my friends.

And then with friends who looked like me, you know, addressing me was It was like beautiful, gorgeous, then my queen,

and, like, would ask me if I was pregnant. So it was kind of a combination of these, like,
