You may recall back in January of this year, we returned to the sensitive topic of sexuality,

and whether sex is as dangerous as Christians make it out to be, or is it just harmless fun,

harmless recreation?

I was a question from a college student, and the kind of question we would certainly expect from someone who is living in a hypersexualized culture like the one that we live in today.

Pastor John, you mentioned there only briefly in passing 1st Corinthians 6 versus 18 to 20.

That text is in our Navigator's Bible reading plan this week, so it's a good

time to return there and to dwell on the text a little more today on Ask Pastor John. Sex is

about worship. A listener to the podcast, Sarah in Portland, Oregon, writes and ask this question.

Pastor John, hello to you and thank you for Ask Pastor John. As I read in 1st Corinthians 6, 18 to 20, Paul warns believers to flee from

sexual immorality emphasizing that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and should be

honored as such. Temple strikes me. How and why do sex and worship come together in Paul's mind in this text?

I think Sarah has put her finger on something really significant in this text by using the word

worship, even though the word worship does not occur in this text. What the text says is flee from sexual immorality.

Every other sin, that's the ESV translation, that word other. I'll come back to that.

Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body?

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?

You are not your own.

You were bought with a price.

So glorify God in your body. So Sarah is inferring the activity

of worship because Paul brings this bodily action of sexual immorality into relationship with God, the spirit of God, the glory of God,

the temple of God. So when Sarah sees that connection, she's inferring, well, that has to do
